Different Laser Types

Laser Marking Color Spectrum

Control Micro Systems uses a variety of lasers, wavelengths and optics to ensure that the material marking, cutting, etching or welding needs are met properly. While one type of laser may work for several materials, that doesn't mean is the best for the job. The material, mark type, depth and other factors go into picking the right laser for the application. Below are just some of the laser types and their applications.

Sealed-tube CO2
Lower cost marking by surface discoloration. Far infrared wavelength suitable for plastics, paints, inks, ceramics and other nonmetallic materials.
Slab CO2
High far infrared power for deep surface modification of nonmetallic materials.
Diode-pumped Nd:YAG (DPSS)
High peak power at near infrared wavelength. Exceptional beam quality and pulse stability. Narrow linewidth for small characters with deeper material penetration.
Pulsed Nd:YAG
Very high peak pulsed power (5.5kW) at near infrared wavelength for deep engraving and wide linewidths.
Frequency-tripled Nd:YAG
Ultraviolet (UV) wavelength produces the narrowest linewidth for micromarking: optimum wavelength for several specialty materials.
Frequency-doubled Nd:YAG
Visible green wavelength for narrow linewidth, small character marking: best wavelength for gold, many synthetics and plastics.
Q-switched Nd:YAG
High peak power: narrow pulse width for deep penetration marking/engraving. Near infrared wavelength optimum for most metallics and many non-metallics.
